Samuel Shelton is an experimental photographer who specialises in a crossover of documentary and fine art photographic styles. With a major focus on self-portraiture Samuel’s work captures themes on modern social stories, drawing from his own personal experiences and taking particular interest in mental illness and mental health promotion. He captures these themes with a sense of realism, providing a platform for the viewer to gain insight, understanding, and experience of the daily suffering caused by such illnesses.

In his most recent work Samuel has developed his practice to not only provide visual documentation but also visual experiences to an audience. Through the utilisation of multimedia and installation practices he has achieved artworks that submerse the audience within the visuals and create an environment in which an audience can experience a glimpse of what it feels like to suffer with mental illness.
