Marika Akula

Marika Akula believes photography to be creative, inventive and always exciting, its changeability is what keeps her enthusiastic at all times. Specialising in portraiture, still life and landscape photography, Marika enjoys creating a constructive imagery.

In her latest work Marika has been focusing on environmental issues regarding bees in decline, agricultural pesticides and a human health. Currently she is leaning towards a scientific and medical photographic style, using mainly digital cameras. However, she is prepared to be adaptable if she feels the need to slow down and challenge herself, she will then move to the use of analogue.

​

Marika prefers the use of colour photography within her work, believing that colour can have a positive effect on mood, creating an illusion of the present, and in a way seeming more imaginative and surreal. Her aim is to build further on her skills and experience within different photographic processes and techniques, and also to discover a creative potential in the upcoming projects.
